Small Change. Big Impact.

What is PTRLOST?

The PTRLOST is a one cent sales tax that directly reduces property taxes.

It is a NEW sales tax that will allow everyone to contribute while providing property tax relief.

It is NOT a new revenue, as it replaces property taxes. It does not add to the county’s budget. It solely replaces.

How Was it Created?

With the passage of HB 581 in April 2024, Georgia updated its statewide homestead exemption to limit inflationary increases in assessed values.

The same legislation also authorized local governments to adopt PTRLOST.

This gives communities a new way to support essential services while easing long-term property tax pressure.

How Does it Work?

A one cent sales tax is added to all purchases within the county. This tax is then collected and used to roll back property taxes for residential and commercial properties. This means visitors and commuters who come to Habersham County help pay down our resident's property taxes.
